INCREASE PATIENT INDEPENDENCE
Occupational therapy (OT) helps people across the lifespan do the things they want and need to do through the therapeutic use of daily activities (occupations). Occupational therapy practitioners enable people of all ages to live life to its fullest by helping them promote health, and prevent—or live better with—injury, illness, or disability. Occupational therapy practitioners have a holistic perspective, in which the focus is on adapting the environment and/or task to fit the person, and the person is an integral part of the therapy team. It is an evidence-based practice deeply rooted in science. (AOTA.org)

Wheelchair Evaluations
This is a team approach between the individual that has seating and positioning needs, the therapist, caregiver, and the chosen vendor. A comprehensive wheelchair evaluation will be performed including functional status, postural evaluation, equipment assessment, and mobility goals.
Complex rehab technology, also known as CRT, refers to devices that are customized to fulfill the unique needs of an individual. These devices, sometimes referred to as wheelchair or seating components, require evaluation, configuration, fitting, adjustment, or programming.
CRT is more specialized and highly customizable, including positioning components, seat backs and cushions, and electronics. The complex rehabilitation definition refers to devices that meet medical, physical, and functional needs of individuals.
Recommendations for equipment will be made to optimize function, independence, skin integrity and postural alignment. It is strongly recommended that the individual have a follow up visit for the delivery and fitting of custom equipment by our highly trained and specialized staff to ensure proper fit and function.

Specialty Services
- Pressure Mapping is used to determine optimum pressure distribution for seat and back cushions. This is a computer-enhanced assessment tool to identify areas of the body at highest risk for skin breakdown, providing education and assisting in selection of appropriate cushions.
- Custom Molded Seating systems The therapist can assess and work with the vendor to utilize custom molding for clients who need specialized seat and back cushions for postural deformities that cannot be accommodated with off the shelf backs and cushions.

Home Safety and Accessibility
The occupational therapist conducts an assessment of the home environment with the purpose of identifying potential safety or accessibility issues for the client.
The occupational therapist will make recommendations for equipment, assistive devices, assistive technology or environmental modifications, to increase an individual’s safety and independence in their home.
This assessment can take place immediately following an injury, or at any time as functional changes occur.
